Access Services for Distance Education

Buley Library supports the information and research needs of Southern students and faculty participating in distance education programs. Our library subscribes to more than 100 online databases that will connect you to general and subject-specific indexes and abstracts and over 10,000 full-text resources. Research materials that are not available in electronic format may be located through our Interlibrary Loans and Document Delivery services.

Accessing Databases from Off-Campus

The library's databases can be accessed off-site if you have the following three items:

If you forget your PIN, contact the Circulation Desk at (203) 392-5756 or
E-mail Shirley Cavanagh at cavanaghs1@southernct.edu
We'll delete your PIN. Remember, you must go back and establish a new PIN from "Logging into Your Library Record."

Article Requests

If your journal articles are not available in full-text from one database, we recommend that you double check the Journal Locator Link at
http://sy3kp5cd5d.search.serialssolutions.com/
before submitting an ILL request.

Journal Locator is an electronic journals management system that be searched by journal title. If the journal is available in full-text, Journal Locator will list the databases that index the journal, the dates of online coverage, information about the publisher, and whether or not the print journal is available in the library.

If you need further assistance stop at the Reference Desk or call them at (203) 392-5732 or 5733.

If your article is not available in full-text, please fill out one Article Request Form for each article needed and submit online. The ILL journal forms can be found at illjournalform.html

We recommend that you print out your citation(s) so you can refer back to your research information. Please indicate on the form if your articles should be sent to you electronically or mailed to your home or office address. Interlibrary Loans will process only 5 requests per day, per library patron. ILL requests for journals make take 1-2 weeks to fill, so plan far ahead when you have research or course assignments.
