Goals
and Objectives 2:
Provide
services designed to support the University’s mission, to facilitate the use
of library resources, and to promote information literacy.
Provide
consistent coverage of the circulation
Consistent coverage of all service points was identified
as the most critical service need in FY2000.
Immediate solutions were to hire student assistants to cover evening
and weekend hours at the circulation desk.
Karl Groneman, Library Technical Assistant – Evening Circulation Supervisor,
was appointed on April 7 with the primary responsibility of providing basic
coverage of the circulation desk and supervision of student assistants during
evening hours. On June 16 Tom McCormack
assumed the duties of Library Technical Assistant – Information Services Assistant.
In addition to his primary responsibilities in Information Services,
he supervises circulation services and student assistants on Saturdays, and
provides back-up at other times if necessary.
Establish a periodicals information desk
on the lower level to provide assistance in locating and using journals and
microform resources.
An information desk was established in Fall 1999 in the periodicals
reading room. It is staffed during
all hours of library operation, primarily with students who are trained to provide
basic assistance in locating journals and using the microform reader/printers.
Initial feedback from students and faculty has been extremely positive.
Design
a library instruction program that meets the current major needs of the curriculum
while planning for staged growth of the program as Information Services staffing
increases
The Library Instruction Team taught 90 classes in FY2000, providing general and subject-specific instruction to 1803 students. In addition to the formal classes, 634 students were reached through the Library orientation tours.
