Develop, organize, and maintain
a quality collection of library materials reflecting the needs of the academic
community.
Continue to build library collections to meet A-level ALA quantitative standards
Review departmental book allocations and adjust to accommodate demonstrated departmental needs and to support areas targeted for collection strengthening
Formulate a collection development policy to maintain quality reference resources
Complete the integration of government documents into the reference, serials, and circulating collection to facilitate access
Inventory the circulating collection; update the online catalog database and replace missing materials as appropriate
Integrate books held in protective storage into the general collection
Continue systematic weeding of outdated materials in the circulating collection
Study and evaluate overlaps in print and electronic products
Continue to expand the array of online reference and full text resources in appropriate subject areas
Compile and analyze journal use study data to assist in serials collection development decisions
>Shift the circulating collection to accommodate anticipated growth and to facilitate shelf maintenance
Update the collection development policies for all collections
Centralize acquisitions and cataloging of nonprint media in Technical Services
Begin evaluation and appropriate integration of special collections into the library database
Establish a preservation program for general and special collections
Integrate bibliographic records for electronic resources into the CONSULS database
Expand links from the Library’s web page and catalog to other full-text resources and databases
Work with subject selectors to establish appropriate profiles for approval plans
Provide
services designed to support the University’s mission, to facilitate the use
of library resources, and to promote information literacy.
Establish or update written service policies and procedures
Offer library orientation to faculty, administrators, and staff
Develop and implement a comprehensive library instruction program that meets the current major needs of the curriculum while planning for staged growth of the program as Information Services staffing increases
Develop information literacy competencies for application in library instruction classes and other courses within the curriculum
Expand interlibrary loan services to include mediated and patron-initiated document delivery via electronic database and table-of-contents services
Assess information needs and develop resources and services to meet the unique requirements of distance learners
Examine current reference services, survey students and faculty regarding their reference service needs and current satisfaction level, and target staffing and services to meet user needs
Design and implement an electronic reserve system for students and faculty
Staff, organize, and develop human resources
to encourage optimal performance and to enhance effective communication
Establish project-oriented task forces to encourage staff participation in library improvement efforts
Increase use of student assistants to provide basic services and to maintain collections
Organize in-house staff development programs focusing on areas of direct interest and/or applicability to all library staff, e.g., disability awareness, safety and security, communication, teamwork, etc.
Support targeted staff development activities that support the Library’s goals and objectives and to retrain staff to handle new responsibilities
Maintain facilities and equipment to provide an efficient,
comfortable, accessible, and safe environment.
Promote effective library communications
throughout the university community.
