The Southern Connecticut State
University administration and the CSU Board of Trustees approved a request for
a 12% increase in collections funding for the Library in FY2001.
This increase presents an opportunity to continue assessing collection
strengths and weaknesses, to target those areas that are inadequate, to add
online resources, to participate in cooperative efforts with other libraries,
and to take advantage of opportunities for developing some truly excellent collections.
The materials budget has been allocated as follows:
| Library Materials Budget |
FY2000 |
FY2001 |
| Books | $ 592,062 | $ 608,048 |
| Periodicals | $ 750,000 | $ 845,000 |
| Electronic Resources | $ 200,000 | $ 250,000 |
| Other Library Materials: | ||
| Microforms | $ 35,000 | $ 35,000 |
| Nonprint Media | $ 50,000 | |
| Total |
$1,577,062 |
$1,788,048 |
Book Fund Allocations
The Library Collection Development
Committee has adjusted book fund allocations to reflect curricular changes,
new majors, and unique needs. All figures have been rounded up to the nearest
one hundred dollars, and the separate allocations established in FY2000 will
continue, with adjustments based on FY2000 spending patterns.

Librarians and the department
faculty will continue to work together to build the best collections possible
with available resources. Teaching
faculty will be encouraged to recommend titles to the librarian assigned to
coordinate collection development in their subject area.
The library faculty are ultimately responsible for determining the scope
and nature of the collections.
