Works under the general supervision of the Head of Access Services.

Detailed Statement of Duties and Responsibilities:
Shares in the daily responsibilities
of Circulation, Interlibrary Loan, and Government Documents Services.
Assists in coordinating
the work of student assistants in the Division; hires, prepares work schedules,
trains, and evaluates their performance and productivity.
Participates in stack
management, including space planning, shelf reading projects, and the shifting
or relocation of library materials.
With guidance from the
Head of Access Services, writes and updates guidelines, procedures and policies
for Access Services.
Designs forms, schedules
and charts to facilitate the efficient operations of the Division.
Charges, renews and discharges
library material; collects fines, maintains circulation and billing records.
Serves as backup in the
processing of reserve materials.
Provides support to the
Head of Access Services in the coordination of government documents functions.
Serves as backup in the
processing of Interlibrary Loans; verifies Interlibrary Loan requests through
the OCLC system and uses other bibliographic sources to ensure accuracy.
Collects and maintains
statistics for Access Services, providing data for annual reports
Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications: two years of library experience or equivalent education. In-depth knowledge of library science techniques and practices; basic knowledge of library classification systems; knowledge of record keeping procedures; ability to operate automated library systems; excellent interpersonal skills; oral and written communications skills.
Position
Summary: The Technical Services Librarian will work primarily as a cataloger
in the Technical Services Division, responsible for organizing and providing
intellectual access to Buley library resources. Responsibilities include original, complex, and copy cataloging
of print and non-print serials, audiovisual materials, curriculum materials,
and internet resources in all subject areas. The TS Librarian will work with
TS Division members to develop/revise policies and procedures for cataloging
a variety of information formats according to AACRII+ standards and Library
of Congress protocols within an automated environment and in collaboration with
consortium members, and will join in system-wide authority control initiatives.
The librarian will participate in other Technical Services Division professional
duties as assigned.

Develop/Revise
policies for bibliographic control of serials (print and non-print), audio
visual materials, curricular materials and electronic resources.
Perform
original complex cataloging of serials (print and non-print), audio visual
materials, curricular materials and electronic resources; including updating
holdings in OCLC and adding records to CONSULS database.
Participate
in and oversee copy cataloging of serials (print and non-print) audio visual
materials, curricular materials, and electronic resources; including updating
holdings in OCLC and adding records to CONSULS database.
Serve
as CSU consortium liaison regarding technical services division interests.
Participate
in authority work initiatives at the local and consortium level.
Develop
procedure manuals and Technical Service web pages in collaboration with
Technical Services staff as needed.
Investigate
and incorporate emerging technical services innovations.
Participate
in periodical evaluation and consideration of
integrated library systems and determination of workflow changes
in a team based environment.
Participate
in library and university-wide activities.
Qualifications:
ALA
accredited MLS or equivalent.
Two
years experience in academic or research library desirable, preferably in
multi-library network environment.
Direct
knowledge and experience with MARC, Anglo American Cataloging Rules II+
and application and interpretation of Library of Congress Subject Headings
and classification scheme.
Direct
knowledge and experience with OCLC or other major bibliographic utility
and experience with a local integrated library system.
Knowledge
of data transfer standards and system compatibility issues.
General
knowledge of national standards and trends in technical services and automation.
Strong
commitment to service.
Demonstrated
planning and implementation skills.

Participates
in reference service 10-15 hours per week at the Reference Desk.
Acts
as liaison between Buley Library and the School of Education.
Provides
specialized reference services for the School of Education faculty and students.
Promotes
and provides library user education in support of School of Education courses,
and in other disciplines as needed.
Develops
user guides and instructional materials as needed.
Creates
appropriate web pages for the Buley Library web site.
Develops
the Library's collection in the field of education, including juvenile and
young adult materials.
Investigates
and incorporates emerging instructional technologies.
Participates
in library and university-wide activities.
Qualifications:
ALA
accredited M.L.S., or equivalent.
Academic
coursework or degree in the field of education.
Minimum
of five years of professional experience in public services in a college
or university library setting; teaching experience preferred.
Broad
experience with a wide variety of print and electronic reference materials;
expertise in resources in the field of education.
Demonstrated
ability to work creatively and collaboratively with faculty, staff, students,
and colleagues.
Excellent oral and written communication/presentation skills; demonstrated initiative in outreach activities.

OCLC for appropriate bibliographic data for new and existing holdings, export
to local CONSULS system and add check-in and item records.
Create
order records for serial titles (print and non-print) including fund and
vendor codes. Add paid lines
for use in collection development reports.
Work
as periodicals team member in evaluating microfilm candidates due to space
and preservation issues.
Edit
bibliographic records as directed by periodicals librarians to reflect authority
control decisions and consortial agreements and general library standards.
Provide
information desk service and maintain schedule for periodicals service desk.
Supervise
and train students as needed.
Occasional
acquisitions ordering and receiving responsibilities.
