Goals
and Ob
Staff, organize, and develop human resources to encourage optimal performance
and to enhance effective communication
There were several staff changes in FY2001. Cindy Schofield-Bodt was promoted to Librarian and Susan Miller was granted tenure and promoted to Associate Librarian in Fall 2000. Denise Marks assumed expanded responsibilities in Technical Services and was upgraded to Office Assistant. Kim Wilk was upgraded to Library Technical Assistant to reflect a higher level of responsibility. Librarian Ali Zamouri increased his hours from 17.5/week to full-time, effective February 23, and expanded his role to manage the Curriculum Laboratory. Frances Hughes retired in July, then returned as an adjunct librarian in the fall to manage the gift books. Charles Stoddard retired in September; Susan Miller resigned in November and David Bretthauer resigned in April to pursue new professional opportunities at other universities. Two librarian vacancies were filled – Hing Wu as Technical Services Librarian on February 23 and June Cheng as Education Reference Librarian on June 29. Two newly created Library Technical Assistant positions were filled – Beth Paris, Access Services Assistant, in September and Margaret Weiler, Technical Services Assistant, in June. Regular staff meetings provided opportunities to share information among various library units, to report on staff development activities, and to promote participation in short- and long-term planning efforts.
Establish project-oriented task
forces to encourage staff participation in library improvement efforts
Task forces enabled interested library staff to participate in focus groups to handle several important initiatives:
Shirley Cavanagh, Paul Holmer, and Edward Hoyer provided invaluable input on public photocopier services for inclusion in the new Request for Proposals. Shirley, as Head of Access Services, will coordinate the ongoing management of this important service.
The Assessment Team worked diligently on developing approaches to evaluating library resources and services – Shirley Cavanagh, Paul Holmer, Vickie Mick, Clara Ogbaa, Winnie Shyam, Diane Tomasko, Cindy Schofield-Bodt, and Kathy Swenson worked with the library director.
Several staff members participated in the evaluation of databases for the Connecticut Digital Library Initiative. Susan Clerc led the team, which included Tom McCormack, Clara Ogbaa, Beth Paris, and Diane Tomasko.
A systems team, led by Edward Hoyer, was created in April to coordinate library technology and to assess future needs. The team included Shirley Cavanagh, Susan Clerc, and Cindy Schofield-Bodt.
The planning group for the April 9 Faculty Open House included Shirley Cavanagh, Susan Clerc, Paul Holmer, Vickie Mick, Clara Ogbaa, Joan Ricardo, Cindy Schofield-Bodt, Winnie Shyam, Diane Tomasko, Nancy Via, and Margaret Weiler.
Shirley Cavanagh, Paul Holmer, Edward Hoyer, Cindy Schofield-Bodt, and Winnie Shyam worked with the library director to develop the Library Building Program.
The individuals who served on the task forces and committees contributed their unique perspective, expertise, and enthusiasm to these successful efforts.
