Goals and Ob jectives  FY2000 -2001 : Communications

Promote effective library communications throughout the university community.

The University Library Committee continues to provide invaluable faculty input and support of library initiatives.  Many faculty have individually provided constructive suggestions for improvements in library services and resources.  The library director’s participation in the New Faculty Orientation in August 2000 was well-received, and several new faculty provided recommendations on services and collections.  Results of a brief faculty survey distributed in May 2000 supported the directions taken by the Library.  The survey was distributed again in May 2001 – analysis of the comparative data should provide valuable insights for assessing the Library’s progress.  The Library hosted a Faculty Open House in April, highlighting the broad array of services and resources.  The FY2000 annual report was distributed to several key members of the faculty and administration, and the library staff continue to establish written policies and to upgrade the web pages to enhance communication.

The faculty open house was held on April 9, from noon to 2:00pm.  The event began in the Tiffany Room, with brief presentations by President Adanti, Academic Vice President Smith, and University Library Committee Chair Hugh Davis.  The library director presented highlights of recent improvements in Buley Library, and plans for the future.  Light refreshments were served, followed by opportunities to participate in library tours, demonstrations and hands-on instruction with online resources and new equipment, and presentations on policies and procedures for reserves, interlibrary loans, and new acquisitions.  Nearly all library staff participated in the planning and/or the implementation of the event.

Several new user guides were updated and/or added to the library web page:

Shirley Cavanagh established a web page for Access Services, with detailed policies and procedures for circulation, reserves, and interlibrary loan.  Cindy Schofied-Bodt created a page listing new holdings for all of the departmental allocation areas, with links to subject selectors and Consuls citations.

The University Library Committee, led by Hugh Davis, continued to provide invaluable faculty input and support for library initiatives.  The committee included:
