INNOVATIONS, CHANGES, AND
MODIFICATIONS
- Library hours were expanded during the Wintersession – from closing at 4:30
Monday through Thursday to closing at 9:00pm, from closing on Saturday and
Sunday to opening regular hours on Saturday.
Summer Session hours were expanded from closing on Sunday to opening
1:00pm to 9:00pm.
- Beginning in the Fall 2000 semester, Marsha Clement processed reserves by
creating a brief bibliographic record in Consuls, along with a separate barcode
to generate reports for each course.
The reports provide the course number, the title of each book or article,
and the number of times the material circulated.
This automation of the reserves function facilitates daily management
and reporting for faculty using the service.
- Interlibrary loan expanded its services by joining the Connecticut Request
ILL consortium. We are now able
to borrow and lend material from most Connecticut libraries and quickly process
these requests electronically. We
also purchased Clio ILL software that monitors loan statistics and supports
copyright compliance.
- The gift process was reviewed and streamlined this year.
A key part of the new gift process was the addition of a part-time
staff member who receives, records, and sorts incoming gifts.
Outlets for passing on items that are not appropriate for Buley Library
are being developed. The semi-annual
Buley booksale was eliminated in favor of an ongoing booksale whereby sale
books are re-stocked weekly. This
year 867 gift books were added to the collection after recommendation by the
subject selectors in various areas.
- A New Titles area with lounge seating was established on the main floor
to highlight new acquisitions. Denise
Marks has assumed the new responsibility of planning, managing, and maintaining
the books on display.
