Law Resources: Finding Books

CONSULS is the online catalog for SCSU, CCSU, ECSU, WCSU, and the State Library. It can tell you what books, videos, government documents, and other materials Buley has for your research topic. Depending on your topic you may need to conduct a search by:

Locating items in Buley:
Make sure you see the word AVAILABLE under Status on the book record. That means the book is on the shelf and you may check it out. If you see a due date, the book is already checked out.

What to do if Buley Library doesn't own the book you need:

  1. If you find a book in CONSULS and CCSU, ECSU, or WCSU has an available copy, click on the Request link and fill out the form. It takes 3-5 working days for the book to get to Buley. Make sure you choose "SCSU Circulation Desk" from the Pickup Location menu.
You'll need a library PIN in order to request the book. If you don't have a PIN, follow the directions for creating one.
  2. If you need a book that doesn't appear in CONSULS, you have 2 options:
    1. Use iCONN, the Connecticut Digital Library's catalog or WorldCat to find out if any libraries in the area own the book, and arrange to go to the library yourself. It's a good idea to call the other library before you go and ask whether you'll be able to check books out.
    2. Fill out an Interlibrary Loan (ILL) form. It can take 2 or more weeks for ILL books to arrive, so plan ahead. This service is available only for books not owned by a CSU library.
